If you are interested in being involved then visit the site.
The rules are simple. Select a four sided area no larger than 25 square
kilometres (5x5km or 8x3km are appropriate) which is defined by its centre grid
reference. This is your patch and you can count any wild, living, full species
(BOU) you identify (seen or heard) in, over or from the defined area during the
year.
Thanks for this, Richard. I'd like to join in with my patch centred on Hambledon village. I'll work out the exact reference from the map.

My central square is SU4515 - Gaters Mill / The White Swan PH at Mansbridge. This enables me to do all my 'survey' work in one go and adds to the richness of each walk

ReplyDeleteHaving just got a proper map for my area, the SU is 5834 not 7834. Awful total today seen in half hour before we went out for day was 15. Still a start on day 1.

Total to the end of 2nd Jan = 50. Highlights to date; Red Kite, Marsh Tit, Little Egret, 2 species of Grebe.
But: - Where have all the fieldfares gone!

ReplyDeleteJust seen this, a great idea please put me down for SU6934, Four Marks area. I don't expect much, but you never know, so far this year I have 29 Highlights are Red Kite, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Tawny Owl and female Blackcap.
